The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Aquaponics Training Project in Barbados

Purpose of the Project

The purpose of the project is to train entrepreneurs and teachers in Barbados on aquaponics, a sustainable way of integrating fish farming with plant production. The project aims to empower Barbadians by providing them with the knowledge and skills to establish and sustain profitable agribusinesses in the Caribbean. It also aims to promote climate resilient farming and the establishment of sustainable practices.

Justification of the Project

The project is funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and includes a five-day workshop consisting of classroom and practical sessions. The training of 30 entrepreneurs and 10 teachers in aquaponics, the establishment of a demonstration facility at Adams Aquafarms, the promotion of sustainable farming practices, and the establishment and sustainability of profitable agribusinesses in the Caribbean are some of the key deliverables of the project. By providing the necessary training and resources, the project aims to create a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector in Barbados and the Caribbean region.
